In Memory of Lil’ Dave Thompson 1969 – 2010

We are saddened this week by the news of a tragic accident involving third generation Mississippi Bluesman Lil’ Dave Thompson. It is a huge loss for the Blues world! Dave was killed when he was thrown from his van in a traffic accident this week as he was returning from a show. From his booking agent Doug Tackett at Road Dawg Touring Co:

“It is with great sadness that I write you all today that Lil’ Dave Thompson was killed in a car accident early morning, Sunday, February 14, 2010. He was travelling home after playing the Blues Bash at Fiery Ron’s in Charleston, SC on his final day of a very successful tour. The band was driving toward Greenville, MS when the van struck a hole in the road, veered into gravel and lost control. Lil’ Dave will be greatly missed by me personally. It has been an honor & blessing to represent such a genuine talent and wonderful person.”

Blues You Can Use Request Announcement

Requests or dedications play an important part in the Blues You Can Use show…

Requests or dedications are taken by Instant Message by logging onto: www.detourblues.com/message, from 1-3pm, eastern. And from 3-5pm, the phones are activated, allowing listeners the opportunity to call in their requests… or just say hi. Give us a call at: 423-546-0360 or toll –free at: 888-895-0996 ext. 5.

Basically, our listeners “take over” programming of the show. When you send an Instant Message, or call the station with your request, we add your request to the show’s song rotation… the more requests, the better. This gives us a chance to see what our listeners like listening to, and let’s you… the listener, take over control of the station. You tell us which songs to play!

Blues You Can Use Back On The Detour!

Beginning Monday, February 15th, the show Blues You Can Use, Hosted By John Tibbs, will be broadcasting daily from 1-5pm eastern on detour BLUES… and will also be broadcast from 3-5pm on The Detour (www.thedetour.us). The Blues You Can Use show, hosted by John Tibbs will not be broadcast today!

The Blues You Can Use show, hosted by John Tibbs will not be broadcast today! John has picked up some kind of “bug” during the weekend and was given some medicine and told to “take it easy and get some rest”, so that is what he is going to do. He will be back on Tuesday, February 9th, broadcasting live and taking your requests and dedications. Today (February 8th) is John’s birthday and he was looking forward to spending it with his listeners, but… he got this “unwanted” birthday present!

detour BLUES Experiencing Technical Difficulties – UPDATE!

On Jan.25, 2010, this message was posted by admin…

“detour BLUES is currently experiencing technical difficulties. detour MUSIC will replace detour BLUES until the technical issues are sorted out. Sorry about this! Stop back by for additional updates.”

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the studios here at detour BLUES were without power from approximately 6:30am – 2:00pm. In calling the local power company, we were informed that the branch circuit that supplied us had developed a problem and was kicking the circuit breaker and they would have to go out in the field and physically locate the problem. While the station does have UPS, our batteries won’t last that long. During that time, The Detour, www.thedetour.us, our sister station provided programming for us, and while their programming is not strictly blues such as ours, we appreciate their support. Steps are being taken to prevent this problem from arising in the future. Thanks for your understanding.

Respectfully,

John Tibbs – Station Administrator
