detour BLUES

Station Administrator

Hi, my name is John Tibbs, and I hold the position of Station Administrator here on detour BLUES. It is my job to see that everything runs smoothly for the station and problems are kept to a minimum. I am also responsible for programming and promotion of the station.

So, what are your qualifications you ask? Well, I played music professionally for a total of 11 years and have been involved in the music business off and on since I was 15 years old. I have taught music, performed onstage, and for the past 2 years have hosted a show called “Blues You Can Use, Hosted By John Tibbs” on the Internet radio station The Detour, www.thedetour.us. I have had to stop playing publicly due to health problems (I am on dialysis, 3 times a week, 4 hours a session), but still maintain my love for music… especially the blues!

As a musician, I understand just how difficult it is for artists to get airplay these days. Commercial radio stations are geared towards “making money”, so they don’t want to take chances on artists who are not “established”. This makes it extremely difficult for new artists to get airplay of any kind, especially blues artists, because if blues is even played on the station, normally it’s only a 3 or 4 hour show. That’s where detour BLUES is different! You’ll hear all styles of blues on detour BLUES -

  • Acid Blues
  • Blues-rock
  • Blues shouter
  • Boogie-woogie
  • British blues
  • Canadian blues
  • Chicago blues
  • Classic female blues
  • New Rhythm and Blues
  • Country blues
  • Delta blues
  • Detroit blues
  • Gospel blues
  • Hokum blues
  • Jazz blues
  • Jump blues
  • Kansas City blues
  • Louisiana blues
  • Memphis blues
  • North Mississippi blues
  • Piano blues
  • Piedmont blues
  • Punk blues
  • Rhythm and Blues
  • Soul blues
  • St. Louis blues
  • Swamp blues
  • Texas blues
  • West Coast blues

If you are a blues artist and would like to have airplay on detour BLUES, we certainly would like to hear from you! For details on how to submit your material to the station, click on the “Your Music On The Station” link on any page on this website. With your help, we will continue to “keep the blues alive”!

So… if you have a “love for the blues”, come visit us here at detour BLUES… we’d love to have you as a member of our “family”!
